Dan and I went out to OSU's 20 year old cider orchard the other day in Corvallis. It was great to see the various cider apple varieties they've grown over the years and to find out which varieties have yielded the best fruit and to hear some of the challenges they've had. It was most exciting to meet so many folks interested in growing cider apple fruit! We talked to several new orchardists that are excited about growing heirloom and hard to find cider apple varieties and want their fruit to be showcased in the final product - which is what 1859 Cider Co. is all about. It was awesome and made us, once again, so happy to be located in the heart of the Willamette Valley.
